This tutorial was done with PSP9   
but could be done with other versions.

All of my tutorials are written following the steps I used to make my graphic.   
It is my hope that you will take what I provide 
and do your own thing with it. 

 

YOU WILL NEED

Paint Shop Pro -  Download a trial version 
 Fonts: NeoclassicaFleuronsFree.otf and Clover Things.ttf both can be found
Basic knowledge of brushes and layers  

Remember to SaveOften
STEPS - These are the steps I used.


Drag the arrow to mark your place

1.

Lets Begin

New Image 400x400
File/Save As: chalk2.pspimage
Foreground Color: #ffffff
Background Color: #785b0d

Flood Fill Tool [F]
Fill the image with the Foreground Color

Change Foreground Color to: #fffbef

New Layer

2.

The Text Tool 

  Text Tool [T]
Create as: Selection
Font: NeoclassicaFleuronsFree
Size: 150
Stroke: 0.0
Alignment: Align Center
Anti-alias: smooth
Auto kern: Checked

Click somewhere in the middle of the canvas
Type the letter "i"
Apply

Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Save Selection to Alpha Channel
 I do this just incase I need to go back to the selection
3. Fill In The Selection 
  Materials Palette

Click the arrow to swap the Foreground and Background Colors
I do this because if you have white as the background color you won't be able to see the font.

Even though your selection will be clear you want to see the letter before you click apply

Paint Brush [B]
Brush: +Square 25
Shape: square
Size: 150
Hardness: 90
Step: 150
Density: 90
Thickness: 1
Rotation: 11
Opacity: 90
Blend mode: normal
Continuous and Wet look paint: NOT Checked

Brush Variance [F11]
All top settings: Normal & 0
Fade rate (pixels): 100
Position jitter(%): 0
Scale: NOT Checked
Impressions per step: 1

Place the cursor just outside the selection

Click & hold down the mouse button and drag the brush across the selection

4. Add A Border 
  Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of Pixels: 5
OK

Selections/ Modify/ Select Selection Borders
Outside
Border width: 1
Anti-alias: NOT Checked
OK

New Raster Layer

Flood Fill Tool [F]
Fill the selection with the Foreground Color
You might have to zoom in to see where to fill
You might have to click fill 2-3 times to get the color you want

Selections/ Select None [Ctrl+D]

5. Fill It In 
  Magic Wand Tool
In the tool Options bar, click the drop down arrow

Click the reset to default arrow

Click anywhere outside the line
Selections/ Invert [Ctrl+Shift+I]

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of Pixels: 5
OK
New Raster Layer
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down
Repeat

Flood Fill Tool [F]
Fill with the Background Color

Effects/ 3D Effects/ Drop Shadow
Offsets: 0
Opacity: 75
Blur: 2.00
Color: #785b0d
OK

Adjust/ Add/Remove Noise/ Add Noise
Gaussian
10%
Monochrome: Checked
OK

Selections/ Select None [Ctrl+D]

Turn off Raster 1
Layers/ Merge/ Merge Visible
6. Design 2
  New Raster layer
Flood Fill with white

Foreground Color: #547638
Background Color: #96c371

Text Tool [T]
Create as: Selection
Font: Clover Things
Size: 150
Stroke: 0.0
Alignment: Align Center
Anti-alias: smooth
Auto kern: Checked

Click somewhere in the middle of the canvas
Type the letter "A"
Apply

Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Save Selection to Alpha Channel
7. Fill The Selection 
   Paint Brush [B]

Brush: +Square25 
Shape: square
Size 250
Hardness: 90
Step: 200
Density: 80
Thickness: 1
Rotation: 45
Opacity: 50
Blend mode: normal
Continuous and Wet look paint: NOT Checked

Brush Variance [F11]
All top settings: Normal & 0
Fade rate (pixels): 100
Position jitter(%): 0
Scale: NOT Checked
Impressions per step: 1

Click, hold down the mouse button and drag the brush across the heart

Selections/ Modify/ Select Selection Borders
Inside
Border width: 1
OK

Same Layer
Flood Fill Tool [F]

Fill with the Foreground Color
8. Move The Selection 
  Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Load

Magic Wand Tool
Right click on the selection
You can now move the selection to a new spot

Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Save Selection to Alpha Channel

Tap the Del Key

New Raster Layer

Selections/ Modify/ Select Selection Borders
Outside
Border width: 1
Check Anti-alias
OK

Fill with the Foreground Color

Layers/ Merge/ Merge Down
9. Fill The Image 
  Magic Wand tool

Click anywhere outside the clover

Selections/ Invert [Ctrl+Shift+I]

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of Pixels: 5
OK

New Layer
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

Flood Fill Tool [F]
Fill with the Background Color

Turn off Raster 1

10. Finish Up 
  At this point I tubbed both designs 
Then used them to create this
