This tutorial was done with PSP9   
but could be done with other versions.

All of my tutorials are written following the steps I used to make my graphic.   
It is my hope that you will take what I provide 
and do your own thing with it. 

 

YOU WILL NEED

Paint Shop Pro  -  Download a trial version   
 Font of your choice.   I used Arch Rival Font 
Basic knowledge of vectors and layers
Fill patterns of your choice OR you can use the ones I used
      Right Click on the images and save them to your hard drive 

Remember to SaveOften  
STEPS - These are the steps I used.


Paste on the page along with the arrow

Part 1 The Shapes

1.

Lets Begin

Open the font of your choice and minimize it on your desktop
When you open PSP it will be available for use and you won't have to install it

New Image 400x400
File/Save As:  appliqué.pspimage
Note: To make the é hold down the Alt Key and type 130 on the number pad

2.

 The Edge

Foreground Color: #ffffff
Background Color: #7fab7c

Flood Fill layer
Note: I used the fill color for contrast while I was working

New Raster layer: edge

Selections/Select All
Selections/Modify/Contract
Number of pixels: 15

Flood Fill

Selections/Select All
Selections/Modify/Contract
Number of pixels: 8

Tap the Del Key

3.

 The Letter

New Vector Layer: letter
Background Style: Null

Text Tool
Create as: vector
Font: SF Arch Rival
Size: 72
Stroke width (pixels): 8.0
Font Style: Bold
Alignment: left
Anti-alias: sharp
Auto kern: Checked

Place cursor in the middle of the page
Type a capitol A
Click Apply

Click on a corner and drag the box to enlarge the letter
Use the handles on the bounding box to size the letter

Layers/Convert to Raster Layer

You can close the font now

 The Apple

New Vector Layer: apple

Preset Shape Tool
Shape: ellipse
Anti-alias: Checked
Create as vector: Checked
Line style: +Solid
Width: 8.00

Draw an ellipse

Pen Tool
Mode: Edit

Click on the top node
Pull the arms up and out a little

Click on the bottom node
Repeat as above

Click on one of the side nodes
Hold down the Shift Key and click on the other side node
Tap the up arrow on the key pad 14 times

Layers/Convert to Raster Layer

 The Stem

New Vector Layer: stem

Preset Shape Tool
Shape: ellipse
Anti-alias: Checked
Create as vector: Checked
Line style: +Solid
Width: 8.00

Draw a small thin ellipse for the stem

I turned off my letter so you could see better

Pen Tool
Mode: Edit
Click on the top node
Tap the right arrow key on the number pad 10 times
Use the nodes to finish shaping the stem

Layers/Convert to Raster Layer

 The Leaf

New Vector Layer: leaf

Preset Shape Tool
Shape: ellipse
Anti-alias: Checked
Create as vector: Checked
Line style: +Solid
Width: 8.00

Draw a small ellipse for the leaf

Object Selection Tool
Use the rotation handle to rotate the leaf

Pen Tool
Mode: Edit
Use the nodes to shape the leaf

Layers/Convert to Raster Layer

Here is what we have so far

Part 2 The Fills

7.

Edge Fill

Active Layer: edge

Magic Wand
Mode: Replace
Match Mode: RGB Value
Tolerance: 0
Contiguous: Checked
Feather: 0
Anti-alias: NOT checked

Click on the empty space outside the edge
Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of pixels: 2

New raster layer: edge 2

Background Style: Pattern
Click on the Background/Fill properties box
Click on the pattern drop-list to see thumbnails of the available patterns
Click on green-001
Angle: 0
Scale: 100

Click OK

Flood fill the selection

Selections/ Select None
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

 Leaf Fill

Active Layer: leaf

Magic Wand
Click inside the leaf

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of pixels: 2

New Raster Layer: leaf 2
Flood Fill with: green-001

Selections/ Select None
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

 Stem Fill

Active Layer: stem

Magic Wand
Click inside the stem

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of pixels: 2

New Raster Layer: stem 2
Flood Fill with: brown-001

Selections/ Select None
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

 Apple Fill

Active Layer: apple

Magic Wand
Click inside the apple

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of pixels: 2

New Raster Layer: apple 2
Flood Fill with: red-001

Selections/ Select None
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

Letter Fill

Active Layer: letter

Magic Wand
Click inside the A

Selections/ Modify/ Expand
Number of pixels: 2

New Raster Layer: letter 2
Flood Fill with: yellow-001

Selections/ Select None
Layers/ Arrange/ Move Down

Active Layer: Raster 1
Flood Fill with: white-001

Dropper Tool
Hover over the light green in the pattern 
Click the left mouse button to add that color as the Foreground Color
