Bubble Lights

This tutorial was done with PSP9   
but could be done with other versions.

All of my tutorials are written following the steps I used to make my graphic.   
It is my hope that you will take what I provide 
and do your own thing with it. 

 

YOU WILL NEED

Paint Shop Pro -  Download a trial version 
Animation Shop  
LF_bubble light.pspimage
My Balls and Bubbles preset 
included in the zip
 
Basic knowledge of vectors and layers  

Remember to SaveOften
STEPS - These are the steps I used.


Drag the arrow to mark your place

1.

Lets Begin

Myra and Elaina there are NO VECTORS in this tute
I have provided the lights for you

Place the Balls and Bubbles preset in the Presets folder of your Psp files

New Image 
Open LF_bubble light.pspimage
[Shift+D] to duplicate.
Close original
File/Save As: lights.pspimage

Prepare The Base 

  Active Layer: base bottom
Set layer Opacity to 70%

Active Layer: base top
Set layer Opacity to 70%

Active Layer: bottom
Effects/ 3D effects/ Inner Bevel

Bevel: #2
Width: 10
Smoothness: 0
Depth: 5
Ambience: 19
Shininess: 11
Color: white #ffffff
Angle: 315
Intensity: 40
Elevation: 35
OK

Active Layer: bottom details

Effects/ 3D effects/ Inner Bevel

Bevel: #2
Width: 5
Smoothness: 0
Depth: 2
Ambience: 19
Shininess: 11
Color: white #ffffff
Angle: 315
Intensity: 40
Elevation: 35
OK

Active Layer: top details

Effects/ 3D effects/ Inner Bevel
Same settings
3. Prepare The Lights
  Active Layer: tube
Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Select tubes
New Raster Layer: tube cutout

Effects/ 3D effects/ Cutout
Offsets: 0
Opacity: 50
Blur: 10.00
Shadow color: Black #000000
OK

Selections/ Select None [Ctrl+D]

Adjust/ Softness/ Soften

Active Layer: tube
Layers/ Delete

Select the color you want for your liquid
Active Layer: liquid

Selections/ Load/Save Selection/ Load Selection from Alpha Channel
Select liquid

Flood Fill [F] with your selected color
Set layer Opacity to 70%
4. Getting Ready 
  Active Layer: colors
Layers/ Delete

Close layer: background

Click on any open layer
Layers/ Merge/ Merge Visible

Turn Background layer back on

 

 

 

 

 

 




.gif files don't save shading well on a transparent background

5. Add The Bubbles
   New Raster Layer: bubbles 1
Effects/ Artistic Effects/ Balls and Bubbles
Select LF_bubble lights from the Presets drop down
OK
Keep Selected

Don't worry if a bubble overlaps the base, we will remove it later

New Raster Layer: bubbles 2
Effects/ Artistic Effects/ Balls and Bubbles
This time check the Randomize box
OK

New Raster Layer: bubbles 3
Effects/ Artistic Effects/ Balls and Bubbles
Uncheck the Randomize box
then check it again
Notice the seed changes
OK
Active Layer: bubbles 1

Eraser tool [X]
Zoom in and erase the part of the bubble that is over the base.
Repeat for any other layer if needed

Selections/ Select None [Ctrl_D]

Active layer: bubbles 1
Adjust/ Brightness and Contrast/ Brightness/Contrast
Brightness: 25
Contrast: 0
OK

Repeat for the other 2 bubble layers
6. Animating The Lights 
  Turn off Bubbles 2 and 3

Shift+Ctrl+C
This selects all visible

Open Animation Shop
Ctrl+V [Paste as New Animation]

Back to PSP
Turn off Bubbles 1
Turn on bubbles 2
Shift+Ctrl+C

Back to Animation Shop
Shift+Ctrl+L [Paste After current Frame]

Back to PSP
Turn off Bubbles 2
Turn on bubbles 3
Shift+Ctrl+C

Back to Animation Shop
Edit/ Paste/ After current Frame [Shift+Ctrl+L]

You can now go back to PSP and save and close the image

In Animation Shop
Edit/ Select All [Ctrl+A] 

Animation/ Frame Properties [Shift+Alt+Enter]
Display time [in1/1000th sec]: 25
OK
Click on the little filmstrip on the tool bar

This opens a new window showing you how the animation looks
7. Saving The File 
  If you are happy with it, close the play window
File/ Save
File Name: bubble lights.gif
Save
